RoofHero FAQ

Everything you need to know before getting started with your roof replacement project.

How much does it cost to replace a roof?

There is massive variance in the cost of a roof replacement. Factors that play in to your specific roof replacement cost will include the following: the size of your roof, how steep your roof is, how complicated your roof is, what material it is, and perhaps most importantly: which contractor you select to perform the job. If you want an exact price range, taking all of these factors into account, use our free estimate tool here: Instant Roof Estimate with AI.

Our search engine will also filter for roofers that are equipped to perform an installation for your specific roof, based on your location, and your roof's material and attributes.

Will insurance cover my roof replacement cost?

This depends on your homeowner's insurance policy, roof age, and most importantly: whether or not your roof has sustained some type of damage (usually high wind or hail). The best first step you can take is hiring an expert roofing professional that knows how to work an insurance process. It's important to monitor your roofer while they perform an inspection for wind or hail damage, ensuring they are not fabricating damage in a fraudulent way. Typically, if your roofer identifies storm damage, your roofer can represent you to your insurance company. Your insurance company will send out an adjuster and verify storm damage. From there, your roofer and insurance company can work together to agree on the scope of work and price. If all of this occurs and you're approved under your homeowners insurance policy, it is possible to have a full roof replacement covered by insurance, less the cost of your deductible.

One way to get started is by using our free roof estimate and pro matching tool. RoofHero pros typically are well-equipped to perform the typical insurance process and will be able to guide you along the way. In the event you are not able to be covered by insurance, RoofHero offers a free price protection tool by showing real, instant roof pricing online.

How do most people afford a roof?

Paying for a roof is similar to any other big-ticket home improvement project. Some people save up and pay cash, or use cash from an emergency fund. Some people qualify for their insurance company to cover the cost of the roofing work. Others will use some type of debt, including but not limited to: financing through their roofing contractor's bank or financing partner, garnering a home equity line of credit, or using a credit card.

How do you calculate the cost of a roof?

The math behind this is quite reasonable. First, the surface area of the roof must be measured somehow. One way of doing this is using RoofHero's free instant measurement tool, which will measure your roof using AI in 3 seconds. We take satellite imagery of your home and use a neural network trained on hundreds of thousands of roofs to instantly predict your roof's surface area. If you'd like to do this manually, you need to get the surface area of your roof by ordering an aerial report or hand measuring. If you choose to hand measure, it's advised to measure the footprint surface area of your roof from the ground, then apply a pitch calculation to each slope varied by pitch. Once you have your surface area, you can research the materials needed for your specific roof, which include: shingles, plywood (if needed), nails, caulking, underlayment, ice and water shield, ridge vents, ridge cap shingles, hip shingles, drip edge, and flashing. Then, tabulate the linear footage and surface area required for each type of material -- this will give you your cost of materials. From there, you should find a good roofing contractor that can install your new roof.

What is RoofHero?

RoofHero provides you an instant roof estimate using AI. It also connects you with the best pro for the job in your area.

Why should I use RoofHero instead of Angi, Yelp, or HomeAdvisor?

RoofHero was built by a former roofer turned machine learning engineer. He built this platform to assist homeowners and roofers alike, addressing key problems in the roofing industry. First, RoofHero has a built in, wholly owned, AI algorithm that measures your roof in 3 seconds. This, combined with a massive database of roofing contractor material pricing, allows us to give homeowners an instant roof price online. Finally, we use our wholly owned search engine algorithm to find the single best roofing company for you. It accounts for your location, roof size, and roof material. We prioritize connecting you with the roofing contractor that both fits your specific roof's criteria, and is most immediately available to give you a call.

How does RoofHero's search engine select the single best roofing contractor for me?

RoofHero maps your selections on our free roof estimate tool, along with the size of your roof, and location of your property, to quickly find a roofer that has a profile configured to meet your specific needs. In the event we have multiple contractors that fit your criteria, our algorithm selects the roofing contractor with the fastest response time. In the event we do not have a pre-vetted roofing contractor already onboarded with RoofHero, our system will display the top 10 roofers near you, along with national average pricing, based on the size and material of your roof.

One nice benefit of this is that you get one call, instead of 5+ when using other online home services websites. The contractors also prefer to use our platform for this same reason, there's less competition when they are trying to win your business. RoofHero's algorithm favors honest, fast, and transparent roofers.

Will I be put into a high-pressure sale situation?

Absolutely not. We guarantee our pros won't haggle you on price. We provide an instant estimate, and in almost all cases, the final purchase price is within 10% of the estimate we provide. Your price is guaranteed for 30 days after the contractor does an on-site inspection.

Are 5+ contractors going to spam my phone when I use RoofHero?

Nope! RoofHero works with only one contractor per zip code, so you will not get spammed with calls and messages from tons of random companies.

How do I know I'm getting a fair deal?

We do the research upfront to find the best contractor for you, ensuring their pricing is fair and reasonable based on their market and company size.

Do you give pricing for repairs?

Yes. Just make sure to select that option in the form.

Do you have vetted pros nationwide?

If we don't have a pre-vetted pro in your area, we will display the top three roofers near you and work in the background to get you a pro that can install close to our price.

What does your vetting process actually look like?

Each roofer on this platform is personally vetted. We ensure they are financially stable, have a designated admin professional, have insurance, excellent crews, and offer a warranty.

Why does this site exist?

The roof buying process is inefficient and riddled with price gouging. RoofHero offers a transparent solution for homeowners to connect with contractors, adding speed and simplicity to the process.
